Weight Bench Exercises with a Standard Weight Bench

A sturdy weight bench provides the ability to do weight bench exercises for your strength training workouts.  The versatility of an olympic standard weight bench is perfect for home gym workouts because you can use the main compound exercises along with its many variations.  This allows for a comprehensive full body workout in the  comfort of your home.  You can set up a full home gym with just a weight bench and a 300 pounds olympic barbell set.  No other equipment are required to get a good workout in.  The bench and weight set would be a good start for beginning lifters and bodybuilders.

Barbell and Dumbbell Press by Weight Bench Exercises:

The weight bench exercises that can be done includes barbell and dumbbell press in flat, incline, or decline position since you can adjust the bench to certain heights. Other compound movements are bench rows, dumbbell chest flys, one arm dumbbell rows (with knee on one side of the bench), incline db curls, lying rear raises, db shoulder rotations for rotator cuffs, sitting db shoulder press, sitting db arnold press, and even weighted crunches and situps. You can lie on the bench just as you would for the floor when performing abdominal movements: chinnies, plank hold, crunches, situps, flag, superman. Also, if you get creative, use the bench for elevation for bodyweight movements like pushups and single legged squats. The elevated variation of exercises provides a greater degree of difficulty due to the shifting of body weight for leverage. Elevate your legs on the bench or use it to do bench dips, if bod weight dips without assistance is too hard or if you’re working to doing full dips.

Body Attachments for Different exercises:

If the standard weight bench comes with additional lower body accessory attachments like leg extension and leg curl, you can do extensions and curls for the hamstrings and quadriceps muscles of the lower body.  Some even come with a lat attachment and dip attachments for lat raise pulldowns and body weight dips.  These models do cost more so consider the price range when buying.   As you can see, there are dozens of different exercises you can perform on an olympic weight bench.  With a bench, you don’t need any other additional equipment for a home gym.  Stick with the basic mass building compound lifting exercises and work it till you build up a base level of strength and conditioning.  Fit bodies, muscular bodies, and lean bodies have been built using just a weight set and bench.

You can buy a weight bench for as low without all the bells and whistles.  The cheaper priced ones don’t come with additional attachments for dips, leg curls, leg extension, and lat pulldown.  Some might not even include the adjustable holding racks for bench press and you’ll have to buy them separately or fit the bench into a power rack.  But most do include the rack portion for the bench.  The more expensive models, ranging from a couple hundred dollars to several thousand dollars offers options that you can select or take away, just like buying a compouter.
